US military budget 2023

United States military spending by year is based on figures released by the U.S. Department of Defense ).Includes all current and planned expenses for the maintenance of the country’s armed forces, including:

  • peacekeeping forces;
  • the actual staff of the Ministry of Defense and other government agencies involved in defense projects;
  • military forces, if they are considered trained and equipped for military operations;
  • military space activities.

Such expenses include the cost of maintaining military and civilian personnel, including retirement pensions for military personnel and social services for personnel; operation and maintenance of equipment and machinery; state procurements; military research and development; costs of military operations in other countries.
